September

August and September

Late summer and early autumn at small window studio has been less about art work and more about gardening. As I look out now the veg plot is cleared and rotivated and awaits the manure! Fruit trees are pruned and the raspberry canes tied in. There is a lot of weeding and bulb planting but my back needs a rest.

Solace Update

The exhibition ran through July and was well received, sales were good too. It has been moved now, down to the Ropery Hall until Christmas, so there is still an opportunity to see some of the work and the book is still on sale.

Nick and I went down with Covid in early July and seemed to loose the rest of the month – only ’emerging’ at the very end.

One of the visitors to the exhibition went away to think about two pieces she had seen and when she made her choice it had been sold. She contacted me and asked for a bespoke piece with a view of the Humber Haile Sands Fort from the south bank near Cleethorpes Fitties where she holidays.

I set about it, it is a monoprint with drypoint, and happy to say when it was delivered she was delighted. All a bit nerve-racking

Holiday Memories

Both Shawbriggs and the Ropewalk requested an ‘Autumn’ range of cards so I got busy. I have been experimenting with some small mixed media pieces with titles on my vintage Hermes 3000 typewriter. These are selling well.

I enjoyed making these very much. Some of the pieces came from a three day workshop with Linnah Ingham.

Summer Landscape

The first of the three days we visited Julian’s Bower – an ancient maze, at Alkborough. From this viewpoint there are incredible views over Alkborough Flats – it is the confluence of three rivers: The Ouse, The Trent and The Humber. It is quite spectcular. We spent time gathering materials and working in sketchbooks, such a joy to do focused work outside. The following two days we spent in studio at the Ropewalk. I don’t think I ‘finished’ anything, I just continued to explore.

So more to follow on this theme!

MABON GREETINGS

23rd September 2022

Heralding my favourite time of year – the migrations begin.

The battle between summer and winter reaches the point in the cycle where the Holly King conquers, Mabon through Yule, and reigns until he wains at Ostara through Litha and the Oak King Rules.

This is a beautiful story, I asked my friend Allan Stichler the Woodcarver to make me a King (Green Man) to represent both: Here he is – Magnificent.

Look left for Holly and right for Oak

See you in October.
